I Am KIKO
Growing up, Music had a constant presence in my home. My parents were passionate music lovers, who frequently attended concerts and collected vinyl records. It was inevitable for their love for music to pass to me. Unlike a lot of kids my age, I didn't have an iPod or mp3 player. Instead, I had a small tape recorder that I would carefully record my favorite songs on. I'd just leave the device next to a speaker and tried my best to not make any background noise. Music was something that my family would bond over and around the time I turned 13, they took me to my first concert, an experience that changed everything for me.
The concert was spectacular. I was absolutely blown away by everything. It was the first time that I was really able to witness the way that art could bring people together on a mass scale and create a sense of unity amongst complete strangers. This experience was the first time I also noticed being on the receiving end of experience architecture. It blew me away to learn that every detail of that concert had been carefully and meticulously planned by a team to ensure that the show ran smoothly.
My upbringing and my first concert experience set the foundation for my love and appreciation of the arts and planted the seed for me wanting to do the same for others. I began wanting to create experiences through music and art as a way of bringing people close together. Unbeknownst to me, these experiences sent me on a journey of growth and discovery, one where music and the arts would continue to play a defining role in shaping who I am.
